A practical first step
Check your installation preparation
Six questions turn the documented requirements into a next-step checklist. Your answers stay in this page and are not saved or sent to analytics.
Your next steps
This guide explains how to install a PS5 emulator on Xbox using the author’s KytyPS5 Xbox port, referred to here as PS5X. It applies to Xbox Series X and Series S in Developer Mode, using xbox-1.1.26292.1138. Xbox One is excluded by that release.
Documentation review, not a console test: the steps below were checked against public author and Microsoft sources on October 19, 2026. Successful installation would confirm that the application is installed; it would not prove that a particular PS5 game is playable.
Before you start
Have access to your Series X or Series S, its controller, a computer for the package and Device Portal, and your own Microsoft developer account. For the author’s USB game-folder setup, you also need a Windows PC to manage NTFS permissions and a USB drive whose existing files are backed up.
The checker above turns those preparation steps into a checklist. It does not connect to your console, inspect files or upload your answers. Unknown answers remain unknown; they are not treated as completed steps.
Enable Developer Mode
- Open the Xbox Dev Mode application from the Microsoft Store on your console.
- Follow Microsoft’s activation process using your own developer account and the code displayed by the console.
- Once activation completes, use Switch and restart to enter Developer Mode.
Checkpoint: the console reaches Dev Home. If activation is incomplete, resolve that account or activation issue before installing a package. These steps are summarized from Microsoft’s retail-console activation guide, which is an archived UWP document; follow current official prompts if screens differ.
Does a developer account cost $19?
Do not assume a universal fee. Microsoft’s current account-opening documentation says its new onboarding flow has no registration fee and starts at storedeveloper.microsoft.com. It also distinguishes older entry paths. Account type, identity verification and the actual official flow shown to you still matter. This website does not register accounts or collect activation codes.
Find the author’s Xbox release
Open xbox-1.1.26292.1138 on the author’s GitHub. Select the Xbox package named KytyPS5-Xbox-1.1.26292.1138.zip from that release’s assets and extract it on your computer.
Checkpoint: the extracted package contains the application .msix and a Dependencies folder with both dependency packages. A desktop archive, source-code archive or similarly named file from an unrelated site is not interchangeable with this Xbox bundle. We link to the release page rather than hosting a mirror.
The release is marked Pre-release. Its publication date and our review date are separate from any installation or gameplay test date.
How to install the PS5 emulator package on Xbox
Open the Xbox Device Portal address shown in Dev Home. Choose Add, select the extracted .msix, include both files from Dependencies, and start installation. Then set the installed application’s type to Game in Dev Home. These are the author’s release-specific installation steps.
Checkpoint: Device Portal reports installation completed and the application is listed in Dev Home with type Game. If deployment reports an error, record its exact text before changing anything. Do not label an installation successful because a file upload alone finished.
Only enter Device Portal credentials into the console’s portal. Keep them out of screenshots or public issue reports.
Configure storage and start the app
The author’s versioned game-folder instructions use an NTFS USB drive, connected to the Xbox as Media. Formatting erases existing data: back up the drive first, or use a prepared drive that does not need formatting.
On Windows, grant the intended game folder Read & execute access for ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES using its Security settings. That permission allows other UWP applications to read the folder too; the author documents a package-specific alternative. Apply access only to the intended folder, not to unrelated personal files.
Add that folder in the application’s settings and scan the library. The documented library supports game folders containing eboot.bin and .zar archives. Use only files you are entitled to use; this site supplies no games, firmware or keys.
Checkpoint: the folder is readable and the intended library entry appears. Discovery is a separate milestone from starting a game. Observe launch, graphics, controls, audio and progress individually rather than assigning a blanket “works” result.
Updating this reviewed build
The author says this release installs over earlier builds and preserves application data. Back up anything important before changing an experimental installation. For this specific update, its notes instruct users to remove compiled shaders once through Settings → Developer → Remove compiled shaders. Check a later release’s own notes instead of assuming this action applies to every future version.
Troubleshooting without guessing
| Where progress stops | What to verify next |
|---|---|
| Developer Mode cannot be activated | Confirm that the developer account setup is complete and follow Microsoft’s account support path |
| The package cannot be installed | Recheck the exact Xbox release, .msix, both dependencies and the Device Portal error message |
| A folder cannot be read | Compare its path and permissions with the author’s game-folder instructions |
| A game appears but fails after launch | Preserve the console model, emulator tag, game version and observed failure; installation success does not settle game compatibility |
These are diagnostic checkpoints, not a list of errors reproduced by this site. Do not download replacement DLLs, game files or credential tools from an unverified “fix” page.
For a guide correction, send the page and supporting public source. For an emulator issue, follow the author’s repository instructions and remove personal information from logs before sharing them. Our editorial policy explains how reports become publishable evidence.
Source notes
This guide is pinned to author commit ca46fdbb4d06ed8690fdcaee15f580af55608efe and release xbox-1.1.26292.1138. The UWP README at that commit is the detailed technical reference. Microsoft documents account and mode activation; the author documents this application’s package and setup. Neither source is a promise from PS5Xbox.com that your games will run.
